  1. It's the little things.... 4 years ago a I paid big money to take a 4 day clas frm a marketing guru. He said the same thing ( and you here you are giving it to us for free!). He recommended Verdana, but I can't really tell the difference between your recommendation and his.

  2. actually in PRINTED materials the serif (Times Roman) type face is the proper type face to use for body copy because the serifs keep the eye flowing along the line of text. But in a computer display the resolution is no where ad good as it is in a printed page so those little serifs become fuzzy and distracting. So you are correct about the choice of a typeface for computer displays...but not for the reasons you discussed.

    It would have been nice to see the 2 version split side by side. (left half vs. right half).

    Remember this is the case for reading on a screen (where the dots per inch is an issue and a variety of other factors), the result is different on printed paper.
